Image registration for video stabilization and motion detection

چکیده
A hybrid image registration method for the purpose of stabilizing a video captured by a moving camera is presented. The following assumptions are made: 1) The provided video contains moving targets. 2) The camera capturing the video is sufficiently far from the scene so that variation in scene depth across an image is negligible compared to the distance of the camera to the scene. 3) The area covered by the moving targets in an image is only a small portion of the image. Various intensity-based and featurebased registration methods are evaluated and use of geometric constraints to register and stabilize videos is examined. Experimental results show that a hybrid method that uses a combination of landmarks, intensity-based matching, and geometric constraints best registers and stabilizes a video captured by a moving camera.

Background and Objectives: Identification of surgical instruments in laparoscopic video images has several biomedical applications. While several methods have been proposed for accurate detection of surgical instruments, the accuracy of these methods is still challenged high complexity of the laparoscopic video images. متن کاملImage Stabilisation Based on Mosaics
We describe an image stabilization system that compensates the motion of a moving platform carrying a camera. The dynamic construction of an image mosaic allows the selection of a reference image (normally the first of the sequence) and the registration of every incoming image with the reference frame. A feature-based mosaicking system is proposed in this paper to achieve image stabilization. T...
متن کاملFast and Robust 2D Parametric Image Registration
Camera stabilization is an important task for video analysis. In this report, we describe a method for estimating and stabilizing camera motion between two images via 2D image registration. Our approach is based on a pair-wise registration of images parameterized by 2D affine or projective transformation. Pair-wise image registration estimates transformation parameters for each pair of consecut...
متن کاملMotion displacement estimation using an affine model for image matching
Motion detection is a very important problem both in video image coding and in computer vision. In video coding, motion detection is a necessary task for motion-compensated predictive coding and motion-adaptive frame interpolation to reduce the required channel bandwidth. In computer vision systems, motion detection can be used to infer the 3-D motion and surface structure of moving objects wit...
متن کاملColor-Based Video Stabilization for Real-Time On-Board Object Detection on High-Speed Trains
This paper is concerned with a particular application of image stabilization. Image stabilization is a necessary step to reduce the effect of camera motion when, as in this case, image sequences are acquired from a mobile platform. In this work, in order to find an efficient motion estimator, two one-dimensional characteristic curves are extracted from each video frame. Such curves are then com...
